Joey Mercury Bio
Adam Birch was born July 18, 1979. He is an American professional wrestler. He is best known for his appearances with Extreme Championship Wrestling under the ring name Joey Matthews and with World Wrestling Entertainment under the ring name Joey Mercury. He also made a few appearances with World Championship Wrestling before the company was absorbed by the World Wrestling Federation Career Joey Mercury Joey Mercury began his career, in Maryland Championship Wrestling, where he held a variety of titles. He was also a member of the North Carolina based Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts (OMEGA) run by Matt and Jeff Hardy Joey Mercury got his first national exposure when he formed a tag team named “the Badstreet Boys” with Christian York, fellow alum, after he left OMEGA. The Badstreet Boys went on to wine 9 consecutive championship reigns. Joey Mercury along with Christian York joined the ECW in 2000 and stayed there for a year, where they stayed till the company’s final pay per view “Guilty as Charged”. World Championship Wrestling Joey Mercury Joey Mercury and York had a brief stint in World Championship Wrestling before its demise in March 2001. Joey Mercury and York then went on with the independent circuit, most noticeably competing in Ultimate Pro Wrestling and Phoenix Championship Wrestling. York retired in 2004 and the team was dissolved. Joey Mercury then wrestled in promotions like Ring of Honor and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. WWE Joey Mercury Raw In early 2004, Matthews was signed to a developmental deal by World Wrestling Entertainment and assigned to the Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) "farm territory". There he formed a tag team with Johnny Nitro, which along with manager Melina Perez, was called MNM. On May 21, 2006 at Judgment Day pay-per-view, where MNM lost the tag team title to London and Kendrick, Nitro and Melina suddenly turned on Mercury, breaking up the group. Later the same month Joey Mercury failed a WWE Wellness policy drug test and was forced to serve a 30 day suspension. Joey Mercury went through rehab in College Park Georgia for six months. Joey Mercury joined back WWE on November 27, 2006 RAW, reforming MNM with Nitro and Melina to take up the also recently reunited Hardys (Matt and Jeff) "open challenge" for ECW December to Dismember. Joey Mercury was addicted to pain pills and was released on March 26 from WWE. Maryland Championship Wrestling Joey Mercury After being released from WWE Joey Mercury rejoined Maryland Championship Wrestling and New York Wrestling Connection once again using the name Joey Matthews.
